IndyACT launched its campaign to ban smoking in public places yesterday in a press conference at Van Dyck AUB.
IndyACT stated that:
We are not against smokres.we are not an anti-smoking group. For IndyACT the issue is about social equity more than public health.
"The freedom of an individual ends when it is affecting the freedom of others"
Every individual has the right to be in any public space without being threatened to get cancer.
Therefore there should be a complete ban on smoking in public places, especially in restaurants.
There, babies and young children are at the highest risk as they are constantly subjected to secondary smoke inhalation in Lebanon.
The tobacco industry does not have the right to brainwash our kids and youth by their advertisements and promotions.
We would agree to put porn advertisements on our highways and just put a warning statement at the bottom of this add saying"this may affect your kids"?Every parent has the right for a fair chance to protect their children and be able to raise them according to their own standards.
They are competing with these advertisements constantly. Therefore IndyACT calls for a complete ban on tobacco advertisements.
Finally, the health cost of each cigarette should be reflected in its price. It is not fair that non-smokers have to pay for the health impacts of smokers.who benefit from the funds available by the Ministry of Health. Therefore we demand to have appropriate health tax on cigarettes that reflects the health costs of these cigarettes. This tax should go directly to the Ministry of Health to cover diseases caused by smoking.

IndyACT launches its campaign asking for a new law that will insure social equity for all.
